Side Bar Accompanying: Fortieth Ratification Sets Clock for Ottawa Treaty's Entry Into Force

The Ottawa Convention is set to enter into force on March 1, 1999. For those countries joining the convention after Burkina Faso—the 40th state to ratify—the treaty will enter into force six months after the date of ratification or accession. Below, the 45 states that have ratified or acceded to the treaty as of September 30, 1998, are listed in the order in which they joined the treaty. There are 87 additional signatories to the Ottawa Convention.
