ACA’s 2009 "Yes We Can Do" List

Persuade the White House to reiterate U.S. support for NPT-related disarmament obligations and the realization of a nuclear weapons free world, and build consensus for an action plan to repair the beleaguered NPT system.
Encourage the president to reduce the alert status of U.S. nuclear weapons and negotiate deeper, verifiable cuts in U.S.-Russian stockpiles to 1,000 warheads or fewer.
Work with the White House to win prompt Senate approval of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
Support serious U.S diplomatic engagement with Iran to convince its leaders to freeze sensitive nuclear activities and allow broader IAEA inspections.
Promote active diplomatic efforts to verifiably dismantle North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.
Urge Congress and the president not to pursue unworkable and destabilizing anti-missile systems in Europe, and push the administration to revive missile nonproliferation efforts.
Increase funding and coordination necessary to bolster U.S. and international action to prevent nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons-related materials from falling into the hands of terrorists.
Encourage members of the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group to adopt tougher guidelines on the transfer of enrichment and reprocessing technologies and dual-use items.
Build support for a U.S.-led initiative to verifiably halt fissile material production for weapons and reduce excess stockpiles.
Win U.S. support for negotiation of an effective global Arms Trade Treaty, and signature and ratification of the Landmine Convention and the Convention on Cluster Munitions.
